Rotary, a good thing – also for you
There are many reasons to be or become a member of a Rotary club. These include, to name just a few focal points, social commitment, charitable projects, international projects, vocational service, youth exchange, networking, and more.
Countless friendships for life have been formed in Rotary. Every Rotary member can also use and benefit from the worldwide network. As a Rotarian, you have access to Rotary meetings around the world. A good opportunity if you are traveling or on business. In this way, you gain beautiful insights into Rotary life outside your own club or get to know interesting members of other clubs.
Doing good for other people – the original idea of Rotary
Rotary was founded in Chicago in 1905 by Paul P. Harris. In search of friends in the big city of Chicago, the young lawyer Paul Harris founded the world's first service club on February 23, 1905. The goal of the association was then as now: to bring people of different backgrounds and professions together to exchange ideas in order to create lifelong friendships.
The name Rotary resulted from the practice that the friends met in the offices of the members in a rotation process. The guiding principle was to stand up for others and help where necessary. Humanitarian activity became increasingly important. This tradition eventually developed into the organization's rich international commitment.
Rotary Club Zurich Airport
Our Rotary Club Zurich Airport was founded in 1981. It comprises about 60 members between the ages of 36 and 96 - the exciting, broad age mix is an enrichment. Young people benefit from the old and vice versa. The women and men in our club have a wide variety of professional backgrounds and special skills. This makes the exchange among each other - also between old and young - enormously enriching and is the basis of our active club life.
The Rotary Club of Zurich Airport is part of District 2000 Switzerland/Liechtenstein.
- Where do we meet? The members of the club meet every Thursday from 11.45 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. at the Hotel Mövenpick Zurich Airport. The weekly lunches are a focus of the club's life. Usually twice a month, members benefit from an interesting external or internal lecture on current topics. Speakers are always exciting personalities. If there is no lecture on the program, the focus is on the exchange among each other.
- What is the annual membership fee? Members each pay an annual fee of CHF 600. At the beginning, there is a one-time admission fee of CHF 500.
- What is expected of the members? The members should actively participate in club life. This includes regular participation in the lunches or the special projects and events, but also the assumption of various tasks such as writing the bulletin, program director, presidium and others. A special feature of our club are the so-called "Meet at Home" invitations. The members act as hosts on a rotating basis and invite a number of members to their homes – depending on their personal capacity. In this way, everyone gets closer to each other and gets to know each other better.

Rotary International
Worldwide, Rotary now has about 1.3 million members in 46,000 clubs in 221 countries. The focus areas of the worldwide clubs include peace work, disease control (a good example is the practical eradication of polio in the world), water/hygiene, maternal and child health, education promotion, economic development and environmental protection.
